Meet Our Farm Partners: “Made By Maggie” Creations Baked with Generational Love
Spoiler Alert! This is one “sweet” story about family, memories, traditions … and lots of butter.
When our long-time team member, Nancy, thinks back to how she acquired her love for baking, she says it’s in her blood – from her mother, aunts and extended relatives. “I come from a family that loved to bake,” says Nancy. And naturally, she kept that special family tradition alive when her three daughters were young. “Some of my favorite memories are having all three of my girls helping me with whatever I was baking, especially cookies at Christmas. Normally, one of the girls was on the counter next to the mixer and the others on stools. They would take turns adding the ingredients,” she says.
Fast forward 30 years, and her middle daughter, Maggie, is now the chef’s-kiss baker behind the “Made by Maggie” baked goods featured in the market. Maggie credits her mom for playing a huge role in her love for baking. “I have so many memories of my mom cooking or baking for others, whether it was to comfort someone going through a tough time or to celebrate a special moment. She showed me how meaningful it can be to share food,” says Maggie. “For me, it’s a simple way to spread joy … I love seeing the happiness it brings to others.”
From a young age, Maggie had the baking bug – when she wasn’t in the kitchen with her mom and sisters, she was always reading cookbooks, watching the Food Network or researching food blogs to find inspiration. “When Maggie was in middle school, she enjoyed making cookies for her friends. I remember her tweaking the recipes to make them even better,” Nancy says. “I simply introduced her to baking, and she’s taken it to a whole new level.”
A level so good that she’s now selling her home-baked goods on a regular basis. Throughout her various careers, Maggie always shared her sweet treats with co-workers. Then a friend asked her to make cutout sugar cookies for bridal shower favors, and she’s been selling her sugary creations since. After she posted pictures of those cookies on Instagram, the requests for cookies and cakes started coming in. “I honestly never thought about turning my passion for baking into a business,” she says.
But we – and our customers -- are so glad she did. “My goal is always to create a product that Moser’s is proud to offer – and brings a little joy to everyone who takes it home,” says Maggie. “Our family loves the market and everything the Mosers are doing with it. I have really enjoyed baking with their fresh, local produce and sharing those creations with the community.” Maggie adds that she likes the challenge of being creative with her scratch baking and coming up with something special each week.
For many families, food is at the heart of their rituals: they strengthen family bonds, connect generations and create lasting memories. In 1989, Nancy created a cookbook with recipes from many extended family members. “It feels like a family keepsake, and I already have copies saved to pass down to our daughters,” says Maggie. A sure sign that the sweet traditions in this family will endure for generations to come.
“Meet Our Farm Partners” features the people and products that make Moser’s Farm Market unique. Maggie delivers her baked goods to the market on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. She regularly drops off sea salt chocolate chip cookies (a market favorite!), oatmeal cream pies, frosted brownies, mini sugar cookies and various fruit crumble bars.
